SMOKE
VENTILATION INSTALLERS ASSOCIATION
Smoke ventilation is one of the most critical — and most overlooked — life-safety systems in any
building. When a fire breaks out, these systems are what keep escape routes clear and give people the
seconds they need to get out. Yet across South Africa, standards of design, installation and maintenance
vary widely, and there is currently no unified voice holding the industry to a common benchmark.
The Smoke Ventilation Installers Association (SVIA) has been formed to change that. We are a newly
established non-profit association bringing together the contractors, installers, manufacturers and
suppliers who share a commitment to doing this work properly. We would like to invite you and your
company to join us as a founding participant.

Our purpose is to unite professional contractors under a shared commitment to three core
pillars:

Uncompromising Quality:
Driving superior craftsmanship, engineering integrity, and
operational excellence in every design, fabrication, and installation

Rigorous Compliance:
Enforcing strict adherence to national building regulations,
SANS codes, and international fire safety standards to ensure legal and technical
accountability

Advocating for the continuous testing, serving, and upkeep of
life safety equipment, guaranteeing that critical systems perform flawlessly when it
matters most.
Lifelong Maintenance:
SVIA Vision Statement
To be the definitive authority and trusted benchmark for smoke ventilation contracting in South
Africa, creating a built environment where every life safety extraction system is flawlessly
executed, fully compliant, and meticulously maintained to guarantee absolute protection when
disaster strikes.
